Of course when a small business owner says "us", they often mean "me." In this case, farmer Anna here. Although the flowers are predominantly my project and business, I could not do it alone.
I grew up on a large farm in Colorado, where we raised conventional commodity crops. It's a long established line of work, spanning centuries in my family. I decided to venture into heritage grains, pastured poultry and produce. And then when covid happened, everything changed and I moved to Flathead Valley with my daughter, to live closer to my mom. I asked my six year old daughter what I should do here, with so little acreage compared to what we had to work with in Colorado. And she answered "sell flowers!" What a sweet childish idea, I thought. In truth, I'd fancied growing flowers for the market for years, but "they're just flowers- not food. Growing food for people is noble."
Fast forward two years to the day I married my perfect husband- a dreamy wedding decorated with flowers that I grew myself. That sealed the deal! I LOVED my flowers- and so did every one of my guests. You must understand- I love to bring people joy- it's why I love to cook (we cooked for our wedding too.) The way the faces of our guests lit up, just enjoying a moment of beauty, sparked a new creative goal for me- and it clicked. I am a flower farmer. And by my side, helping, supporting, and loving me, is my amazing family.
